About CalmDogGuide
CalmDogGuide is a practical resource for dog owners who want real training advice that works — without the fluff, gimmicks, or guilt trips.
Every guide on this site is built around positive reinforcement methods backed by animal behavior science. We break down complex training concepts into clear, actionable steps you can start using today.
Who’s Behind CalmDogGuide
CalmDogGuide was founded by a lifelong dog owner with over 15 years of hands-on experience raising, training, and rehabilitating dogs of all breeds and temperaments — from stubborn terriers to high-energy working breeds.
Our training philosophy is rooted in the science of animal behavior and learning theory, drawing from the work of respected organizations like the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). We stay current with the latest research in canine cognition and behavior to make sure our advice reflects what actually works.
We created this site because too many dog training resources online are either outdated, based on debunked dominance theory, or so generic they don’t help anyone. Our goal is to give dog owners specific, breed-aware, actionable guidance they can trust.
What We Cover
- Puppy fundamentals — crate training, socialization, first commands
- Leash skills — loose-leash walking, reactivity, breed-specific tips
- Potty training — schedules, apartment solutions, stubborn puppies
- Behavior problems — barking, biting, separation anxiety, resource guarding
- Breed-specific guides — tailored advice for the unique challenges of each breed
Our Approach
We believe training should strengthen the bond between you and your dog, not damage it. That means no punishment-based methods, no dominance theory, and no shortcuts that create new problems.
Every article is written to be specific and actionable. If you are dealing with a husky that pulls on leash, you will find breed-specific advice — not generic tips repackaged from every other site.
Editorial Standards
We take accuracy seriously. Our content is:
- Research-backed — grounded in peer-reviewed animal behavior science
- Regularly reviewed — updated when new research or methods emerge
- Honestly recommended — affiliate products are only included if we genuinely believe they help
